Tanjore a well known place for Temple, Culture, Sculpture and paintings is located 350 Kms south of chennai. It is popularly known as "Rice Bowl of Tamil Nadu". As per the recent stats, a total quantity of 4.66 lakhs mts rice was exported to various countries from india, Tamil Nadu is a major part of it. The Production rate of paddy in tanjore is 703 tonnes whereas groundnut and other pulses are in 1 : 4 ratio. Tanjore lies in the east of trichy having ancient temples, sculptures like Brahadeeshwara Temple, Mani Mandapam, Tamil University, Lord Mariamman Temple etc.
Tanjore Paintings were originated during the period of marathas(16th century). Gem-set technique has been carried out by the painters in tanjore school of painting. The Speciality about the painting is that the ornaments in the painting were designed with orginal gold leaves & sparkling stones. Earlier paintings are designed with diamonds, rubies and precious stones.
Brahadeeshwara Temple dedicated to Lord shiva during the period of cholas. This Temple is an height of inspiration for the aspirants in the architectural and construction sector. The speciality of this temple is the shadow of cupola never falls on the ground. The gigantic Lord shiva statue and Nandhi Statue make others excited about its orgination. This Nandhi statue is the second largest monolithic nandhi in india. It was built in the 10th century A.D by Raja Raja CholaIt has many subways linked to many places was procreate during chola period inorder to rescue themself and their armed forces during war season. Few people in tanjore believed that the nandhi was grown in the past, But it was scientifically proved that "it was happen because of the expansion of stone due to heat". Each and every store tells a story in this temple, but it was written in "Grantha Language" an old language.
Mariamman Temple located at punnai nallur(Tanjore) was dedicated to goddess Mariamman (Hindu Mythology). This will cure disease is the strong belief of the people.
Tanjore Consist of 234 factories with 16.43 lakhs mandays worked. There are 10 Medium scale industries, 357 small scale industries, 85 cotton sales industriesIt incldes 13836.03 hectare reserved forest area with more than 16 categories of forest products.
