Kolli Hills - Tamil Nadu India



When speak about Tamil Nadu, Nobody will forget to describe the hills that are located in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Literature will comprise of the detailed study of Historical hills that are located in Tamil Nadu. Kolli Hills is the most spoken hills in Tamil nadu, mainly because of the beauty & religious significance. It will not be considered as a commercial tourism spot even it has its own natural beauty. The Hills are about 1000 to 1300 m in height.It has 70 Hair pin bends. The name signifies the Mountain of Death. Tamil Literature like Purananooru, Silapathigaram described kolli hills. Most famous place for trekking.

Ettukai Amman is worshiped as a regional god in kolli hills. The mountains have several mythological legends associated with them, and often come across as an eerie place in contemporary tales due to the unexplored and less traveled terrain. one of the tourism website says "Getting outside and experiencing nature in itself is a wonderful activity. A nature walk of Kollimalai can take you to beautiful picturesque spot like Botanical Garden a famous place with varieties of flowers, eco friendly cottages and Rose Garden. From here, you can see two attractive spots, Mini Falls and the Main Falls (also known as Kolli Falls or Aagaya Gangai). The falls is the main tourism spot to visit in Kolli hills. To reach the Aagaya Gangai falls, you should walk down by steps (steep down, nearly 45 to 60 minutes of walk). Try to use all five senses (sight, smell, feel, taste, and hear) in your nature walk." 

Aagaya Gangai is the water falls in kolli hills. It has 11.17 latitude and 78.40 longitude and having source as river called "Aiyaru". It is located near by Namakkal. The mountain is a site of pilgrimage, because of the Arapaleeswarar temple, which is believed to have a secret path to the Shiva temple in Rasipuram. This Shiva temple is said to have been built by Valvil Ori in the 1st or 2nd century when he ruled this area. "Arappaleeswara sathakam" is the poem which praises the Lord Arappaleeswarar. It is believed that this temple exists during the Sangam period itself.
