One of the biggest events in the Philippines is the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City. Unbelievably, for more than 30 years the event has provided local and foreign tourists with the opportunity to enjoy themselves, drink, and party on the streets of Bacolod! Highlights of the yearly event are held on the fourth Sunday in October. In 1980, the Festival made its debut. The province's main agricultural crop was sugar cane, and sugar prices were at historic lows as a result of the introduction of sugar alternatives such high fructose corn syrup in the US.
This was the first MassKara Festival and a time of tragedy; on April 22, that year, the inter-island vessel MV Don Juan, which was travelling from Manila to Bacolod City and carrying many Negrenses, including those from prominent families in the city, collided with the tanker Tacloban City and sank in the Tablas Strait off Mindoro, leaving 18 people dead and 115 people missing. The MassKara Festival was established in order to uplift the locals' spirits and restore their smiles. The residents of Bacolod City made a statement with their grinning masks that they would overcome their difficulties and tragedies.
One of the nicest festivals in the nation takes over the streets of Bacolod City and Negros Occidental during the celebrations in October. The hearts of dancers waver. People from all walks of life congregate on the streets to watch them, and they are all wearing masks. People are frequently in awe of the magnificent show of skill, synchronization, and colorful Masskara Festival design. The Dance Competition is the most thrilling event during the yearly MassKara Festival. Each and every guest would not want to miss this portion of the festival. The MassKara Festival is well-known for its street celebrations, with Masskaraland being the largest of them all.
Everyone is welcome to enjoy the fun at Masskaraland.
Even first-time travelers will find something to enjoy at the MassKara's distinctive and thrilling events. Here are some suggestions for first-timers to make the most of the festivities:
1. Reserve hotels in Bacolod in advance. Accommodations fill up quickly.
2. Put on some relaxed clothing and sneakers. The festival's hub is Lacson Street, thus attendees must travel far to get there.
3. Pack a rain umbrella. October could be sunny or wet depending on the weather. Check the Bacolod weather forecast as well.
4. Try the famous Bacolod chicken inasal. Anywhere you go, you may get this chicken meal, from street vendors to dining establishments.
5.Tthe ideal vantage point. Since it serves as the location for the dancing arena, Bacolod Public Plaza is the ideal place to view the street acts.
6. Prepare in advance. An hour before the celebration begins, take to the streets. Make sure you are in a good place because the street dance usually starts at two in the afternoon.
This year plan to join them and celebrate MassKara on 23rd of October 2022.
